KARONGI: Stolen lubricants recovered

Police in Karongi District have recovered 39kgs of grease, which were stolen from Strecol, a Chinese company constructing Rubengera-Rambura road.

The lubricants were recovered on Wednesday, July 14, from the suspected thief identified as Janvier Muhoza, 29, who was also arrested in Bwihe Village, Rufungo Cell, Rugabano Sector.

The Western region Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi said security organs first arrested a commercial cyclists, who was transporting the stolen grease.

"Police first intercepted a cyclist, who was carrying a sack containing the lubricants. The cyclists disclosed that he had been hired by Muhoza to transport the grease from Rugabano Sector to a destination in Muhanga District," said CIP Karekezi.

Muhoza, who was later located and arrested, was an employee of Strecol company attached to its fuel supply unit.

He has since been handed over to RIB at Rubengera station alongside the exhibits for further legal process.

Article 166 of the law determining offenses and penalties in general states that any person convicted for theft is liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than two years and a fine of not less than Frw1 million and not more than Frw2 million, community service in a period of six (6) months or only one of these penalties.
