Youth organization vow to fight drug abuse

The youngsters organized under Rwanda Youth Volunteers Organization have vowed to strengthen the awareness against illegal and criminal acts such as drug abuse to further promote safety and security in the country.

The organization has about 7000 members from all parts of the country, who include students and graduates.

About 300 members of the organization met at Kigali Independent University (ULK) on March 30 to further discuss on how to strengthen their activities particularly by supporting the vulnerable and fighting crimes.  

The organization President, Jean Bosco Mutangana said they are going to double their efforts in all their activities to further develop the country.

The organization volunteers to help vulnerable families and individuals with livestock and health insurance among others.

Commissioner of Police (ACP), Damas Gatare, the Commissioner for Public Relations and Community Policing in Rwanda National Police thanked the youth for the noble cause and urged them not to fall prey of any illegal act.

He urged them to embrace the government development policies and initiatives like Ndi Umunyarwanda, to promote unity among Rwandans and sustain what the country has so far achieved.

Fred Mufulukye, the Director General of Territorial Administration and Good Governance in the Ministry of Local Government told the youth organization to be resilient and uphold Rwandan values like patriotism, integrity and trust.
“As future leaders, you need to sustain what the country has so far achieved and do more,” Mufulukye said.

He observed that ensuring security is the responsibility of every Rwandans and challenged them to report anything that might threaten the security.
