Police liaison officers urged to strengthen cooperation with public

District and community liaison officers – DCLOs and CLOs – operating in different parts of the country met in Kigali on March 28 to review the implementation of the crime prevention strategies in the last three months with a call to strengthen their effort in working with the public as an effective way to ensure security in communities.

Supt. Rene Irere, the Director of Community Policing in Rwanda National Police (RNP) said the officers excelled in their duties in the last three months, with 90 percent of the targets achieved.

Among the activities conducted are awareness programmes against crimes and drug abuse and gender violence in particular in schools, refugee camps, and training of Community Policing Committees

Supt. Irere challenged them not to lean back, to stay on course and continue the awareness programmes.

He also asked them to fight corruption and work with communities in development initiatives like umuganda and to ensure security especially during the upcoming Genocide commemoration period.
