Rwanda Police hosts Singapore delegation

Rwanda National Police received a delegation of Interpol Global Complex for Innovation from Singapore at the Police Headquarters in Kacyiru, Kigali.

The delegation, led by Sanjay Virmani, Director of Interpol Digital Crime Centre, on Monday, was welcomed by Stanley NSABIMANA, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel.

The two delegations discussed on the 1st Zone 5 East and Southern Africa Working Group on Cybercrime.

Virmani said, ICT opportunities are exploited by cyber criminals.

“Cybercrime is a threat to the entire world. Every region has its own cyber related challenges. There’s a need for collaboration among states to trim down these crimes,” Virmani said.

Cybercrimes include child pornography, fraudulent sales, hacking bank accounts, stealing of personal and private information.

the two delegations also discussed on the possibility of Rwanda hosting the forthcoming Cyber crime training that will take place in February 2014.  

Rwanda Police officers will acquire training in digital forensics, e-learning, among others, to help officers detect and investigate cybercrimes.

The delegation toured Rwanda Police Computer Laboratory and Ethics Center.
