UK researchers visit RNP HQs

Thirteen researchers from Saint Andrews University in United Kingdom (UK) visited the Rwanda National Police (RNP) headquarters in Kacyiru on March 26 where they were received by the Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana.

The students are in the country on a 10-day research in peace and conflict studies.

The IGP briefed them on the inception of the RNP and its achievements in areas of ensuring peace and security in and out of the country in the last 14 years of its existence including fighting modern crimes like cyber, trafficking in persons and terrorism.

Others include fighting corruption in the force, partnering with stakeholders and the public as a proactive force to fight and prevent crimes and supporting peacekeeping missions in other countries.

Rwanda is among the eight highest contributors of Police peacekeepers globally.

“While in such missions, our officers gain and share expertise in peace building and ensuring safety and security,” the IGP said.

The head of the delegation, Hazel Cameron, said: “Our visit to Rwanda National Police has been an opportunity for us as researchers to witness the remarkable progress and transformation made by the force and the country in general.”
