Female Police officers commit to fight gender violence

Female Police officers have pledged to double their effort to fight and prevent crimes especially those related to gender violence.

The female officers made the commitment on Monday at the end of this year’s ‘Police Women Convention’ held at Adventist University of Central Africa (AUCA) in Kigali.

The annual meeting organised by Rwanda National Police (RNP) brings together female officers to exchange ideas and lay strategies on how execute their tasks better.

About 1200 female officers participated in this 5th convention.

“We have committed ourselves to strengthen our efforts as female officers to prevent crimes especially those related to gender,” Senior Supt. (SSP), Rose Muhisoni, the Director of Anti-Gender Based Violence and Child Protection in RNP, said.

He thanked the force for organising this meeting to help them overcome challenges in their policing duties to further ensure security in the country.

“This is a good opportunity for to come together as female officers to exchange ideas and learn from each other and get more skills in our policing duties,” Inspector of Police (IP), Jeanne d’Arc Mukandahiro said.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Emmanuel K. Gasana, while presiding over the closing of the convention, said this is also a platform to lay more strategies to empower female officers.

He challenged them to abstain from acts that may stain their esteem and the force.

He observed that destroying a name built for years takes...and urged them to endure challenges as the force continues to build itself.

He urged them uphold discipline, integrity and respect their superiors.

The year’s convention was held under the theme “Empowerment of female police officers for sustainable development.”
