Police arrests teenage conman

Police in Kigali has arrested one suspect Jean Pierre Uwimana for issuing forged foreign currency.

The suspect, 19, was arrested following a tip-off to the Police.  Uwimana is held at Nyamirambo Police Station pending further investigation.

The Central Region Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Urbain Mwiseneza thanked the public for reporting the case, but also appealed to them to be more vigilant in all activities that involve money transactions.

“Conmen are everywhere, we request the public to be vigilant and report any suspect immediately,” he said.

Illegal foreign currency dealing is punishable by a two to five years jail term and a fine of two to ten times the value of the counterfeit money.
