IGP Gasana lauds handball club for stunning season

The Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K. Gasana has praised the Police handball club for the outstanding seasonal performance that has made them champions in almost all competitions.

The Police Chief made the remarks on July 13 at the Rwanda National Police headquarters where he received the force's handball team at a special cocktail organised to celebrate their achievements.

During the event, the club management and players handed to the IGP the Genocide memorial and Liberation cups they won respectively.

Police Handball Club, which was formed 12 years ago has won the national league twice, now crowned champions of ‘Liberation and Genocide memorial Cup for the second time each, won the Heroes Day cup twice and the Labour Day cup.

They have also registered an unbeaten run in all competitions this season and already have three silverware, the other one being the Labour Day Cup which they won after beating Gicumbi 35-26.

They lifted the Liberation cup after beating both APR and Nyakabanda on July 12.

They are also favourites for this year's national league as they currently sit on the table summit.

While addressing the players, IGP Gasana expressed happiness of what they have achieved this season and assured them of further support to continue with the winning ways.

"The police responsibility is not limited to maintaining law and order but also as part of community policing, we are involved in different sports activities to demonstrate that there is peace in this nation,” the Police Chief said.

He thanked them for their dedication and hard work that led to success and urged them to continue with the spirit.

Police coach AIP Antoine Ntabanganyimana thanked the Rwanda National Police for supporting them which made the success inevitable.

During the event, RNP also unveiled the new coach of their football club, Mbungo Casa Andre.

Police FC will represent Rwanda in this year’s Kagame CECAFA championship due in Kigali between August 9th and 24th.
