Rwanda National Police rescues two from water tank

The Police Fire and Rescue Brigade rescued two men, who fell into a five meter water tank in Niboye sector of Kicukiro District on Sunday.

The men identified as Deodatus Hamugisha 29 and Evariste Mucumbitsi 43, were apparently repairing the water tank when they lost control and fell into the five meter deep container.

The duo was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK).
Police said they were unconscious at the time of the rescue.

“We received an emergency call shortly after 3 PM on Sunday that two people working on a water tank fell into it. There was no water in the tank at the moment, but they lacked oxygen. But we rushed at the scene and managed to rescue them in time,” Senior Superintendent Jean de Dieu Gashiramanga, the director of the fire and rescue unit, said.

Three similar incidents have been recorded since the beginning of this year, in which three people were rescued, according to police statistics.

Gashiramanga further urged the general population to be equipped with professional skills before doing such risky jobs.

He also appealed to the public to always call police free lines - 111, 0788311120 and 0788311224 – in case of such incidents.
