Police Football Club continued its impressive performance on Friday when they beat Gicumbi 2-0 on day four of the 2016/2017 Azam National Premier League to level points with table leaders Sunrise.
Fresh from last weekend’s equivalent 2-0 win over Amagaju away in Nyamagabe through Justin Mico and Japhet Iramurora, Police FC entered the match with a bit of confidence gained in the last two games that include a brace from Danny Usengimana in the 2-1 win over Bugesera a fortnight ago.
At Kicukiro stadium this Friday, Innocent Seninga players didn’t wither as Usengimana and Mico were on target again to give the law enforcers a well deserved win.
Police’s counter attacks paid off in the 12th minute when Usengimana put the law enforcer in the lead with a solo goal after tearing Bugesera’s defence apart, his third goal of the season.
Defender Jean Paul Uwihoreye’s run forward with the ball paid off in the 38 minute when striker Mico made no mistake to place in his well curved ball to double the lead.
Seninga’s seventh win in 12 games in all competitions shot them up from seventh to a second place, awaiting for results from this weekend’s fixtures when APR and Rayon Sports, who are respectively tied on seven points behind Police FC, take on Musanze and Marines in that order.
Coach Seninga has previously said that his shaky performance especially in preseason was largely because as a new coach with majority new players in the starting lineup, it required time to instill his kind of play and game he wanted, and to him, the system is steadily taking shape and rewarding.
“We are slowly taking step in team spirit and thirst for points, which we will continue to build on,” Seninga said, shortly after the win against Gicumbi.
