Minister Harelimana commends RNP professionalism

The Minister of Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harelimana has lauded the high level of discipline and professionalism exhibited by Police officers, especially in fighting corruption and appealed to the force to strengthen measures against crimes that still exist.
 
The Minister said this on Sunday while presiding over the Police high Council held at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.
 
The Police high Council held quarterly is the supreme organ of the RNP which brings together commissioners and senior police officers heading departments, schools and units, Regional and District Police Commanders, among others, to review the security status and lay new strategies to effectively combat security threats.
 
Minister Harelimana commended the improved security status in the country and thanked the RNP for living up to its mandate.
 
“There is need to identify security threats that still exist in communities and lay tough measures to fight them,” he reiterated.
 
He also appealed to the force to be part of the ongoing reconciliation programme – Ndi Umunyarwanda – and partner with other institutions to ensure its success.
 
The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana reiterated that it’s the force’s responsibility to help in the implementation of government development programmes.

The high council also commended Police-Public strategy – community policing for its effectiveness in fighting and preventing crimes and called for improved service delivery.

The high council also discussed, among others, how to improve the welfare of officers.
