Senegal delegation commends Police’s anti-gender violence strategies

A delegation of officials from Senegal visited Rwanda National Police headquarters in Kacyiru on Tuesday for a study mission on anti-gender violence policies and commended the force’s strategies against the vice.

Marie Pierre Raky Chaupin Mangou, who heads a nine-man team, said “Rwanda National Police is a step ahead” in fighting the vice, which they will emulate to combat it back home.

“Our visit to RNP is to get experience on how to tackle the problem of gender violence in our country, and the RNP’s achievements is a lesson for us,” Mangou said.

She also thanked the good existing cooperation between Rwanda and Senegal.
Besides decentralizing its gender desk to the district level and proving free medical, psycho-socio and legal support to gender violence victims, Rwanda National Police also conducts period campaigns to bring on board the general population to fighting GBV providing information on the affected families.
 
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration and Personnel, Stanley Nsabimana, also echoes on the current existing cooperation between the two countries and added that fighting gender violence is one of the force’s priority areas.

He also said that the force is “proud and committed” to share its experience to help restore peace and security in other countries.

“Rwanda National Police values cooperation beyond boarders as one of the effective and efficient ways of ensuring security of our people,” the DIGP noted.
The delegation is composed of mainly officials from Senegal Police Force, Ministries of Justice and Health, lawyers as well as those from the office of the Prime Ministers.

They also toured different RNP anti-GBV facilities such as Isange One Stop Centre and the gender desk.
