Police apprehends man with fake money

A man has been arrested by Police in Musanze district for allegedly circulating fake money.

The suspect, a resident of Gasanze cell, Muhoza sector was arrested on Saturday after he was found in possession of fake notes amounting to Rwf55, 000, all in 5,000 denominations.

He was intercepted shortly after he used the fake notes to buy goods.

The shop attendant, after identifying that he had been paid, money amounting to Rwf15000, was not real, he immediately notified Police, who apprehended the suspect before he escaped.

The suspect, however, argued that he didnt know that the money was fake and that it was given to him by his boss as part of his salary.

He’s currently held at Muhoza Police Station as Police continues with investigation.

Gahima commended the public for acting responsibly to tackle criminal acts.

Any person who counterfeits or circulates forged currency faces a jail
term of up to five years and a fine of two to ten times the value of the
counterfeit money.
