Nyamasheke: Pupils acquire skills on road safety

Police in Nyamasheke district, on Tuesday, gave road safety tips to pupils of Nyagacaca Primary school located in Kanjongo sector and urged them to observe traffic rule when using public roads.

They were advised to always look at both sides before crossing the road and to use Zebra Crossings and always wait for the pedestrian green light before crossing.

“Teaching students about road usage enables them to know, at early age, the best ways of road safety to avoid being hit or killed by passing vehicles, motorcycles or bicycles,” Supt. Jules Rutayisire, the District Police Commander, said.

Supt. Rutayisire appealed to the school administration to always teach pupils the meaning of road signs and to respect them.

The awareness will also be conducted in all schools in the district.

The event was also attended by area residents, motorcycle taxi operators, who were also cautioned on violating traffic rules, which leads to accidents and loss of lives.
