Rwanda National Police warns members of the public, who burn bushes, which in some cases destroys property and forests.
The warning follows a Saturday fire outbreak in Gasura cell, Nduba sector of Gasabo district, which destroyed two hectares of forests.
According to Police, unidentified persons set fire on the private forest.
However, local residents in collaboration with Police managed to put out the fire. Investigations continue to establish those behind the act.
According to Joseph Karegeya, a resident of Gasura cell, the fires engulfed the forest at around 12pm.
Karegeya, then immediately informed local authorities who in turn called on Police for help.
Police in Gasabo district noted that it was the first time that the sector registered such a fire outbreak.
They said, through partnership with Community Policing Committees (CPC’s) and locals they managed to stop the fire.
Rwanda National Police calls on the public to be vigilant and extremely careful especially during this dry season. Police warns smokers and other people with farming activities to avoid setting fire as it could lead to massive fire outbreaks that result into destruction of crops and property.
