RNP assures peaceful parliamentary elections

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has assured election observers from the East African Community (EAC) that Rwanda’s tradition of holding peaceful elections will yet again be observed in the parliamentary polls set for September 16.

While briefing the observers at Lemigo hotel on Wednesday, ACP Damas Gatare, the Commissioner for Public Relations and Community Policing said the force is committed to ensure a conducive environment during the electoral process.

“Like it was the case in the past, security of voters, observers and candidates is guaranteed in the electoral process,” he explained.

“The role of the Police is to ensure safety before, during and after the elections,” he added.

He explained that Rwanda National Police works with the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Ministry of Defense (MOD), Ministry of Local Government (MINALOC), National Intelligence Security Services (NISS) and Civil Society to ensure secure elections.
