Police recovers computers stolen from health centre

Police in Nyamasheke district has recovered three computers which were stolen from Kibingo Health Centre in the awe hours of Sunday morning, when thieves block into one of the centre’s rooms.

Three people were also arrested in connection with the theft.

The computers were recovered from one of the suspects’ house. Also recovered is and Rwf183, 000, which was also stolen from the health centre.

One suspect is held at Gihombo Police Station while two others are held at Kanjongo Police station pending further investigation.

The Western Region Spokes Person, Superintendent Hamza Vita thanked citizens for alerting Police of the robbery on time, which led to the arrest of the suspects and the subsequent recovery of the stolen equipment.

“People should work instead of resorting to stealing to survive, which is impossible to go away with. One who is busy working cannot think of stealing," Superintendent Vita explained.  

He appealed to businesses and leaders of various institutions to put in place strategies to avoid such robberies.

Under article 300 of the penal code, anyone who is convicted of theft faces a sentence of up to two years and a fine of two to five times the value of the stolen property or one of these penalties.
