How Rwandan police peacekeepers' clean water project is impacting lives in Central African Republic

In December 2019, Rwanda Formed Police Unit-One (RWAFPU-1) contingent serving under the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) developed a project to address the shortage of clean water in the capital Bangui.

The implementation of the MINUSCA funded project worth US$50, 000 was rolled out in July 2020 to construct boreholes in one of the most affected areas of Ngongonon Two, Ngongonon Four and Galabadja Four, all in the 8th Arrondissement.

The clean water project was developed under the mandate of "protection of civilians."

UNMISS Police Chief challenges Rwandan peacekeepers to maintain high performance spirit


The acting Police Commissioner of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) expressed his confidence in Rwandan Police peacekeepers and urged them to keep the spirit and performance high.

Brig. Gen. Mutasem Aljadid Almajali, who is also the UNMISS Deputy Police Commissioner, made the remarks recently, while meeting and interacting with officers under Rwanda Formed Police Unit Two (RWAFPU-2) deployed in the capital Juba.

He said that his interaction with different Rwandan contingents that previously served in UNMISS, has given him confidence on their commitment and selfless service. Read more

Nyagatare: Music instruments stolen from church recovered


Three suspected thieves were arrested on Wednesday, December 30, in Nyagatare District with assorted music instruments and other items, which were stolen from Eagle Evangelical Ministries in Nyagatare.

The suspected thieves are identified as Joseph Twagirayezu, Emmanuel Niyokwizerwa and Japhet Mugiraneza.Read more

Rwanda National Police breaks slot machines theft ring


Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested seven people connected to the same ring suspected to be behind series of slot machine theft in different parts of the country.

They were showed to the media at the Metropolitan Police  headquarters in Remera, on Wednesday, December 30.

The ring include three suspected thieves; two civilians identified as Emmanuel Ndahimana and Omar Bayingana masquerading as ‘Afande’, who connived with a Police officer, Police Constable (PC) Hakim Ndagijimana to steal the lottery machines in different parts of the country. Read more

COVID-19: Police warns of increased operations against curfew violators


Rwanda National Police (RNP) warned of increased operations to enforce the national directives, especially the curfew.

RNP spokesperson, CP John Bosco Kabera said that there are increased movements within prohibited hours, majority passengers traveling to and from upcountry.

“There are increased movements since December 23, of people going or coming from upcountry. Unfortunately, these people seem to have forgotten that there are directives, which must be followed in all aspects, even during this festive period, including prohibited movement hours—8pm to 4am,” CP Kabera said. Nyagatare: Police foils Kanyanga traffickers


Police and local authorities in Nyagatare District foiled different groups of drug dealers that were attempting to traffic Kanyanga, a crude illicit gin, into Rwanda.

The traffickers were intercepted in Tabagwe and Kiyombe sectors on Sunday, December 27, with over 250 litres of the banned gin, combined.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, said that the drinks classified as narcotic drugs in Rwanda, were seized from three different groups, some of whose members were arrested during the separate operations. Read more

Rwanda National Police calls for responsiveness to prevent COVID-19 spread


Rwanda National Police (RNP) commended the public for increased compliance with COVID-19 prevention directives and called for individual responsiveness to fight and report any violations that can fuel further spread of the pandemic.

While speaking on Waramutse Rwanda (Good Morning Rwanda) talk-show on Rwanda Television on Monday, December 28, RNP spokesperson, CP John Bosco Kabera observed that the public generally "behaved well during Christmas celebrations."

He, however, added that there are some people, who were caught violating the curfew while others had no face mask. Read more

Muhanga: Over Frw1 million stolen from beverages depot recovered


Police in Muhanga commended residents of Ruli in Shyogwe Sector for the community policing spirit in the recovery of the money that was stolen from a local beverages depot.

The money amounting to Frw1,185,000 was stolen on Sunday, December 27, from the beverages shop owned by one Pelagie Nyiramana located in Munyinya trading centre.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Theobald Kanamugire, the Police spokesperson for the Southern region, said that the money was recovered from two suspected thieves identified as Christian Ntagengwa, 19, and Jules Habimana, 27.
