The Rwanda National Police (RNP) football clubs have stepped up preparations for football's return.

Players and the coaching staff for the senior team—Police FC—and the junior team—Interforce—on Friday, October 23,  underwent COVID-19 test ahead of joining the residential camp in preparation for the 2020/2021 local football competitions.

All the 42 players, the coaching and other essential support staff members of the senior team (Police FC) as well as 32 members of Interforce, were tested at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru.

“COVID-19 test is mandatory; but when we get all the results, all players, the coaching and key members of the support staff of our two teams will go in the residential training camp where we will also continue to observe other recommended safety practices in our camp, and during training,” Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Maurice Karangwa, the clubs’ secretary general and spokesperson, said.

He added: “Washing or sanitizing hands regularly in our camp, before and after training or match; social distancing, wearing of face mask, disinfecting our facilities such as vehicles, balls and other used items and taking tests at least 72 hours before any football match… all these are standard practices that we will continue to observe in efforts to prevent any infections and be safe.”
