IGP Munyuza to PTS and Rwamagana DPU staff: Professionalism drives success

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza visited Police Training School (PTS) Gishari and the District Police Unit of Rwamagana where he reminded over 2000 Police officers that quality training, professionalism and discipline will drive Rwanda National Police to success.

MPs assess RNP's readiness against disasters


Members of the Standing committee on foreign affairs, cooperation and security in the chamber of deputies visited Rwanda National Police (RNP) to assess the force's capacity and preparedness against disasters.

The lawmakers were headed by the committee chairperson, Fidele Rwigamba.

New ministerial order on automobile technical control tariff comes into force


Rwanda National Police (RNP) wishes to inform the general public, especially owners of automobiles that there have been changes in validity and tariff for automobile technical control and certificate, which take “immediate effect.”

The changes are contained in the new Ministerial Order N° 001/20/MINICOM of 13/02/2020 fixing the maximum tariff of automobile technical control, which has been published in the official gazette.

The new order determines new tariffs for all types of automobiles, validity of the motor-vehicle inspection certificate, adjusted inspection cost as well as the cost for a duplicate of vignette and the certificate of technical control. Read more

Three Police impersonators, fraudsters arrested

Rwanda National Police (RNP) arrested three men, who were posing as one of their own and defrauding unwitting members of the public seeking road traffic related services.

Augustin Byimana, Theogene Rukundo, and Noel Munyarugendo were paraded to the media at Remera metropolitan on Saturday.

RUBAVU: Police recovers stolen items


Police in Rubavu District has recovered varied valuables, which were stolen from German nationals on Monday.

The recovered valuables include money in different currencies, digital camera and its accessories, phone, travel and vehicle documents, among others.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi, the Police spokesperson of the Western region, said that all the items were recovered from four suspected thieves, who stole them from the vehicle, which the victims were traveling in. Read more

Western Province: Police, schools in sensitization against school dropouts


The Police, local leaders and schools in Ngororero and Karongi districts joined efforts to fight child labour and to ensure that all children go to school.

On Wednesday, the three entities managed to find 38 children in the two districts, who had dropped out of school. At least 25 were found in Ngororero and 13 others in Karongi.

According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Twizere Karekezi, the Police spokesperson for the Western region, the children were first sensitized on the benefits of education and their child rights before they were taken back to their respective schools. Read more

MUSANZE: Over 12,000 liters seized in Police operations against illicit brew

Police and local leaders in Musanze District, on Thursday, dismantled two illegal distilleries in Bikara Cell of Nkotsi Sector, which were making psychotropic subatnces illicit brew.

At least 12,950 litres of illicit brew were seized from the two illegal distilleries owned by four people; Nsanzimana Protais, Bizimana Protais, Niyimenya François and Mukamukama Estheria, who were also arrested.

The seizure of the illicit drinks, which were later disposed of, comes at the time when Rwanda National Police (RNP) and partners in community policing, have increased operations against illicit drugs and psychotropic substances and bringing those involved to justice. Read more

Environmental protection: Over 62,000 pieces of polythene bags seized


Police in Kayonza and Burera districts seized 314 cartons (62,800 pieces) of banned non-biodegradable plastic bags, on Thursday.

The polythene bags were impounded at Police checkpoints from five traffickers, who had sneaked them into the country.

In Kayonza, vehicle plate number RAC 983X was intercepted in Cyinzovu Cell of Kabarondo sector with 300 cartons (60,000 pieces) of the outlawed non-biodegradable plastic bags.

Two people on board; Azarias Kamanayo (driver) and Vianney Rubaduka were taken into custody. Read more
