DIGP Namuhoranye challenges Police officers on professionalism ahead of MINUSCA deployment

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, Felix Namuhoranye challenged Police officers set to be deployed for peacekeeping operations in Central African Republic (CAR) to be defined by discipline and professionalism.

The Protection Support Unit-Five (PSU-5) contingent of 140 Police officers under the command of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Valence Muhabwa is set to replace PSU-4 under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the CAR (MINUSCA) rotation.

During the pre-deployment briefing on Tuesday at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru, DIGP Namuhoranye said that “preserving and holding the national flag high goes with discipline, professionalism and facing the challenges positively.” Read more

Gerayo Amahoro: Catholic church joins Police in promoting road safety


The Catholic church joined Rwanda National Police (RNP) in Gerayo Amahoro campaign to educate Rwandans on safer road usage to prevent fatalities mainly caused by human behaviours.

The partnership was launched in all Catholic churches across the country during the Sunday mass.

While addressing the congregation at St. Michel cathedral in Kigali, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, Commissioner for Public Relations and Media, and RNP spokesperson, said that the partnership will further impact on lives of people on roads. Read more

Police cautions motorists against blocking passing lanes


Rwanda National Police (RNP) cautioned motorists against blocking passing lanes and affecting “safe traffic flow”
The commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety department, Commissioner of Police (CP) Rafiki Mujiji, said that this “reckless driving” is against traffic rules and regulations and one of the growing causes of accidents.

“Motorists should have it in mind that the left lane, especially on two-lane-one direction road, is reserved for passing or overtaking traffic. This means traffic using the left lane must yield to traffic wishing to overtake. Keep right, use the left lane only when want to overtake” said CP Mujiji.Read more

Peacekeeping: RNP rotates its Protection Support Unit in CAR


Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Wednesday, rotated its Protection Support Unit (PSU) contingent serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The PSU composed of 140 Police officers, is one of the three Rwandan Police contingents deployed in CAR. Two others serve as Formed Police Units (FPU).Read more

Second batch of aviation security course starts


Forty Police officers from Rwanda National Police (RNP) and South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) started a basic Airport Security course at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru.

The course, the second of its kind, was organized as a requirement and condition by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for all officers working at the airports. Read more

Police officers complete canine course


Thirty-three Police officers, on Thursday, completed a month-long basic explosive and narcotic detection handlers and kennel management course.

The pass-out was held at the Canine Brigade headquarters in Masoro, Gasabo District and presided over by Commissioner for Training and Development in Rwanda National Police (RNP), Commissioner of Police (CP) Robert Niyonshuti.

GERAYO AMAHORO: Road safety education resumes in schools


Rwanda National Police (RNP) and ANPAER, an association of owners of driving schools in Rwanda, this week, resumed the joint awareness campaign in primary and secondary schools to educate students on road safety rules and regulations.

The campaign that resumed on Tuesday covered 62 schools in the 36th week of the year-long campaign.

It follows a similar education programme conducted in October last year, which covered other 649 other schools in different parts of the country. The campaign intends to cover all schools across the country. Read more

Nyarugenge: Two drug dealers arrested

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) arrested two major drug dealers identified as Pontien Rurangirwa and Amiel Sinzukwigena.

The duo was arrested Friday in Nzove Cell, Kanyinya Sector of Nyarugenge District with 10kgs of cannabis. Read more
