IGP Munyuza briefs Police officers ahead of UNMISS deployment

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza, on November 26, urged Police officers set to be deployed under the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), to aim for "service excellence and maximum execution of their peacekeeping mandate."

The Formed Police Unit (FPU1-V) hybrid of 240 officers headed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fabien Musinguzi, will be deployed in Malakal. They will replace the same number--FPU1-IV--under the command of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Paul Gatambira, which was deployed in November last year for a one year peacekeeping mandate. Rwanda, South Sudan Police officers start aviation security course

Twenty-seven Police officers from Rwanda National Police (RNP) and South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS), on Friday, started a three-week basic Airport Security course at the RNP General Headquarters in Kacyiru.

Fourteen of the trainees are from South Sudan. It was organized as a requirement and condition by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for all officers working at the airports. Read more

RNP takes Gerayo Amahoro campaign to truck drivers

Rwanda National Police (RNP) in partnership with MTN-Rwanda, on November 26, extended the road safety awareness campaign to truck drivers operating in Agakiriro in Gisozi Sector, Gasabo District.

The truck drivers were urged to desist from distractive driving especially using mobile phones, one of the common behaviours in drivers leading to fatal accidents. Read more

Police warns against unlawful transportation of meat

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has advised all those dealing in beef business to follow the set safety standards. Those who go contrary to health, transportation and trade of meat standards will face the law.

The warning follows an operation on Tuesday in Kinazi Sector of Ruhango District where two motorcyclists were found transporting meat in “unlawful and unhealthy conditions.” Read more

Parents urged to protect children in holidays

On November 5, all schools closed for the third academic term holidays. The long holidays require much attention from parents’, guardians’ and communities’ part to ensure children’s protection.
While appearing on Waramutse Rwanda, a morning talk-show on Rwanda Television on Monday, Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that some parents and guardians tend to engage minors in hard labour or commercial activities when in holidays, which amounts to “child labour and punishable by law.” Read more

Illegal mineral dealer caught with 18kgs

A man identified as Jean Bosco Ndahimana, suspected of conducting illegal mineral trade was arrested Friday in Muhanga District.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Sylvestre Twajamahoro, the Police spokesperson for Southern region, said that Ndahimana was found with 18.5kgs of minerals at the time of his arrest in Bahimba village, Rwasare cell in Mushishiro sector. Read more
