The Role of Women in Policing

Gender equality is an ideological principal in Rwanda enshrined in the constitution, which highlights principal guidelines on which sectoral policies and programmes base to integrate gender issues in their respective social, cultural, economic and political planning and programming.
It is a policy that has equally come to define the policing environment and the security setting in general in Rwanda.
President Paul Kagame, in his address to the 63rd UN General Assembly, said: “With regards to empowering women and promoting their socio economic and political participation, we continue to make modest progress. We believe that, besides improving gender relations in our country, this marks healthy progress towards realizing our vision of a united, democratic and prosperous Rwanda.”

Security organs arrest four over recent attacks in Rusizi

Security organs arrested four people said to be behind series of gun and grenade attacks in Rusizi District in the recent past.

The suspects are identified as Jean Claude Byukusenge, Jean Berchmans Matakamba, Simeon Nikuze and Innocent Ntibiramira

They are said to be part of the five separate attacks that occurred in the sectors of Nyakarenzo, Mururu and most recently in Kamembe. Read more

Gasabo: Two arrested over circulation of counterfeit money

Police in Gasabo District arrested two people suspected of circulating counterfeit currencies.
Cyprien Mbarushimana and Emmanuel Mfashwanayo were arrested separately on Thursday.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie Gorette Umutesi, the Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, said that Mbarushimana was apprehended in Remera Sector in possession of a fake US$100 note.
Mfashwanayo, on the other hand, was arrested in Gatsata Sector with counterfeit money amounting to Rwf35, 000.  Read more

RWAMAGANA: Stolen motorcycle recovered

Police in Rwamagana District has recovered a motorcycle, which was forcefully stolen from the owner, recently.

The motorcycle, registration number RE 328S belonging to one Eric Nzabahimana, was allegedly stolen in the night of October 27, when he was ambushed by two men in Ntunga, along Rwamagana-Kigali highway.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, disclosed that the motorcycle was recovered on Monday in Kadasumbwa Village, Ntunga Cell of Mwulire Sector in Rwamagana, from the suspected thief identified as Damascene Niyitegeka, 36, who was also arrested. Christians of Restoration Church urged to be ambassadors of road safety

The ongoing national road safety campaign was extended to Christians of Restoration Church in Musanze District, who were urged to use the road safely to avoid causing or falling victims of accidents.

They were also urged to be ambassadors of road safety and share the message with other road users.

Pastor Jonas Matabaro, while addressing his congregation on Sunday, said that God wants his people to live a healthy and prosperous life.

"Respecting traffic rules and regulations means staying safe and making your passengers, loved ones, pedestrians and other motorists on road safe," Pastor Matabaro told the congregation. Read more

GAKENKE: Police recover money stolen from petrol station

Police in Gakenke District recovered Rwf3.5 million, which is part of the money stolen from a petrol station in Nyagasambu, Rwamagana District, recently.

The money was recovered on Saturday from the prime suspect identified as Pacifique Iradukunda, who was a pump attendant on duty in the night of October 24, when the Rwf4.5 million was reportedly stolen from the safe.

Iradukunda was in hide-out since the night of theft, until he was located and arrested in Ruli Sector of Gakenke District on October 26, Police said. Read more
